Independent Bookstore Day 2018
Saturday, April 28 is Independent Bookstore Day. Stores across the city, the state, and the entire country will be rolling out the red carpet for readers old and new. Stop in for free coffee and a doughnuts, great recommendations, and a whole lot more.
Twin Cities Independent Bookstore Passport. This little beauty is your guide to the wealth of stores right here in our fair city and a bit beyond. Visit participating stores on Independent Bookstore Day and get your passport stamped. The more stores you visit, the bigger the prizes you might win.
Midwest Indie Bookstore Roadmap. The Upper Midwest is blessed with an abundance of wonderful bookstores for you to discover. Featuring colorful original illustrations by Twin Cities artist Kevin Cannon (whose artwork is also featured in the Twin Cities Independent Bookstore Passport), this free map will lead you to 150 independent bookstores across North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Guest author/booksellers. One of the best parts of working at a bookstore is recommending books we love to our customers. For Independent Bookstore Day, we’ve invited some great authors to Common Good Books to share their favorite books with you, too. Stop by and chat with them for some new suggestions and find out what they’re reading.
- 10:00am-12:00pm, Mindy Mejia. Mindy is the author of the mystery Everything You Want Me to Be. She recommends You by Caroline Kepnes and Darktown by Thomas Mullan.
- 12:00pm-2:00pm, Sally Franson. Sally is the author of The Lady’s Guide to Selling Out, which Jane Green called “a gorgeous treat.” She suggests you look at The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford.
- 2:00pm-4:00pm, Louis Jenkins. Louis is a poet whose collections include Sea Smoke and Just Above Water. He’d like you to consider Rival Gardens by Connie Wanek. Louis calls her poetry “plainspoken and elegant, unassuming and wise, observant and original.”
