“La Fête Française” fundraising event supporting Fitzgerald in Saint Paul, with jazz vocalist Connie Evingson and pianist Dan Chouinard

Fitzgerald in Saint Paul is hosting a fundraising event with a French flair at  The Commodore Bar and Grill on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at 5 pm.   “La Fête Française” is the 2016 edition of “Puttin’ On the Fitz” an annual event celebrating the birthday of author F. Scott Fitzgerald.  This year marks the 120th anniversary of Fitzgerald’s birth, which took place on September 24, 1896 in his family’s home on Laurel Ave in Saint Paul.  This year’s fundraising event is set in Paris 1924, and includes a dinner of French cuisine, a special performance by jazz vocalist Connie Evingson, accompanied by pianist Dan Chouinard, and various added surprises. Tickets are on sale at $100 to $135 for the meal, drinks, and entertainment, and the ticket also includes a tax deductible donation to support the non-profit organization.  The presenting sponsor of the event is Baird.

For the event at The Commodore, guests are being invited to imagine that it is 1924 and Prohibition has taken hold in America.  Yet in Paris, a favorable exchange rate of dollars to francs has brought a perpetual party to the Dingo American Bar--making it a favorite spot of F. Scott and his wife Zelda, as well as artists and celebrities such as Ernest Hemingway, Cole Porter, Rudolph Valentino, Pablo Picasso and Man Ray.  1920s attire is encouraged for the evening but not required.
